Enter the date of passing to find annual Thivasam / Shraddha dates for the next 5 years
What is Thivasam?
Thivasam (தேவாசம் / திவசம்) is the Hindu annual death anniversary observed on the same Tithi (lunar day) as the day of passing. Unlike a Gregorian anniversary, the date changes every year because it follows the lunar calendar. The same Tithi may fall on different Gregorian dates in different years.
The Thivasam rite (Shraddha) involves offering food (Pinda), sesame seeds, water, and prayers to the departed soul, typically with the assistance of a priest. It is believed to nourish the ancestors and grant them peace and liberation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Thivasam (Death Tithi)?
Thivasam is the annual death anniversary observed on the same lunar Tithi as the day of passing. Because the lunar calendar shifts relative to the Gregorian calendar, the Thivasam date changes every year. This calculator finds the upcoming dates for the next 5 years.
What if the person died during Rahu Kalam or Yamagandam?
The Tithi is determined by the time of death, regardless of whether it fell during Rahu Kalam or Yamagandam. Enter the actual time of death to get the correct Tithi. If the time is unknown, enter without time and all Tithis for that day will be shown.
Can Thivasam fall on the same Gregorian date as the death?
Rarely. Since the lunar Tithi shifts relative to the solar calendar by about 11 days each year, Thivasam falls on a different Gregorian date almost every year. However, roughly every 19 years (the Metonic cycle), the lunar and solar calendars roughly align, and the dates can be close.
What if the death Tithi doesn't occur in a particular year?
Rarely, a Tithi can be skipped in the lunar calendar due to Adhika Masa (leap month) or other adjustments. In such cases, the Thivasam is observed on the previous or following day as advised by the family priest.
